New York Jets

We have to lead out with the newcomers, the New York Jets.

Early on it seemed as if the Jets were tacking on their name to Breeland just to sound as if they were in it. After all, the Baltimore Ravens were late arrivals to the party and still managed to get a visit with the free agent cornerback. The Jets came in at the same time and yet were still sitting on the outside looking in. Now, however, it looks as if the door might still be open.

Without a visit even scheduled, it’s impossible to know how seriously to take the Jets, but if Breeland plays his cards right, he will take a visit if offered. It can only help a player to have an additional team in the mix as every potential suitor increases his leverage with other teams in terms of the financial commitments being offered.

The Jets have $20 million in cap space so finances are not a problem. Breeland might not like the idea of playing for a team who will sit behind the Patriots for the next couple years—or at least as long as Bill Belichick wants to keep coaching—but if they’re willing to pay up, he’s gotta listen. Watch this situation because they could shift the odds for everyone if the Jets secure a visit.
