On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a move to re-sign a familiar face in defensive lineman Mike Purcell.

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially re-signed veteran defensive lineman Mike Purcell, a familiar face who has been with the team for most of the last calendar year, per Field Yates.

Earlier this week, the Chiefs cleared a roster spot with the release of undrafted rookie Elijah Marks, a talented wide receiver who earned interest from several teams coming out of Northern Arizona. The Chiefs signed Marks immediately after the draft, but dropped him this week, and many fans wondered what the corresponding roster move might be—with hopes that perhaps free agent Bashaud Breeland might be the catch.

Now the Chiefs have made it clear that they were interested in making minor moves as they prepare for the rigors of training camp. Purcell knows Bob Sutton’s system quite well and gives them another live body in the trenches for a long several week period heading into the regular season.

Purcell first signed with the team back in November when he joined the practice squad. He then kept his spot after the season by signing a reserve/futures contract in January that kept him on the roster until May when the team released him. Two months later, Purcell is back.

Purcell has spent bits of time with multiple franchises over the last year or more after spending his first years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. His most recent stints include stops with the New England Patriots, L.A. Rams, Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. He appeared in 25 games with the San Francisco 49ers between 2014-16
