Kenneth Acker signs with Indianapolis Colts

Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kenneth Acker has signed with the Indianapolis Colts to help bolster their young secondary.
The Indianapolis Colts have signed former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Kenneth Acker after having him visit in free agency, the team announced on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.
Acker visited the Colts a week ago but left without a deal, at least one that was announced. He also visited the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
Acker comes to the Colts after spending two years with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs traded a 2018 7th round choice back in ’16 to the San Francisco 49ers just before the regular season began.

Acker played in 25 total games for the Chiefs in that time, including all 16 games last year. He made a single start in both years, but never made the sort of impact that he did as a second-year player in San Fran, when he had 3 interceptions and 8 passes defended in 13 starts (in 2015).
Acker’s signing with the Colts reunites him with former Chiefs executive Chris Ballard, who served as Director of Football Operations, in Indy. Ballard is Indy’s second-year general manager and has checked out several former Chiefs in his brief tenure with the team. Acker joins former Chiefs cornerback D.J. White in the Colts secondary.
The Colts are still likely to add some more talent via the draft, but last year’s draft class gave the Colts a nice young core to build around, especially in safety Malik Hooker. Despite an injury shortened season, Hooker looked the part of impact safety which will prove vital for the Colts defense moving forward as they shift to a 4-3 defensive front.
