Terrance Mitchell will sign with Cleveland Browns
By Matt Conner
Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Terrance Mitchell will follow John Dorsey to the Cleveland Browns after signing a reported 3-year contract.
The Cleveland Browns have added another former Kansas City Chiefs player in the form of cornerback Terrance Mitchell, who is getting a reported three-year contract worth $12 million in free agency, per Adam Schefter. There are no details on guaranteed money as of press time.
Mitchell follows John Dorsey, the former Chiefs general manager who now runs the front office in Cleveland, and will now vie for playing time behind Jason McCourty and Jamar Taylor.

Mitchell was a nice find for Dorsey in 2016 for the Chiefs when he added the former Dallas Cowboys corner to the team’s practice squad. It wasn’t long before Mitchell earned a spot on the team’s active roster and from there he blossomed on the field in sub packages enough that he became a temporary starter opposite Marcus Peters down the stretch.
Heading into 2017, Mitchell was considered one of the young options who could permanently claim a starting spot on the outside along with Phillip Gaines, who was returning from injury, and Steven Nelson, who typically played inside but showed ability to rotate in and out. Unfortunately despite starting reps for all three, the Chiefs failed to find anyone willing and able to step in and lock down the other side, leading to wholesale changes in the secondary this offseason.
Mitchell brings an inconsistent product on the field to Cleveland, but he’s also shown a strong nose for the ball, illustrated by his 4 interceptions last season. He’s a strong competitor with good instincts and Dorsey’s likely right to stick with him and give him continued opportunities to grow on the field.
