If you asked me right now today to name the player I most would like to see the Chiefs pick in the second round with their first pick in the 2018 NFL draft, it might be Georgia outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter. Is Carter a little raw? Yes. Is his game tape inconsistent with both jaw dropping highlights followed by several snaps of “meh” production? Yes. I am still 100% all in on drafting Carter. While his tape is inconsistent, it doesn’t seem to be an effort issue and if a guy has jaw dropping upside and gives good effort I believe everything else can be fixed or taught. I just hope he’s still on the board when the Chiefs finally are on the clock.

Carter backed up the crazy speed and athleticism that pops on his game tape at the NFL combine. He ran the second fastest 40 time of the edge rusher prospects and put up equally freakish numbers in the vertical and broad jumps. The guy has the potential to be an elite pass rusher. I’m so excited by his potential that I’m actually worried that another NFL team that picks before the Chiefs will feel the same way and he’ll go higher than many are currently predicting him to go. If I haven’t convinced you yet, I recommend you check out the entire thread from Twitter that I’m putting below. However, even if you just look at this one play you can see his explosive speed off the edge.

The Chiefs desperately need more pass rush production opposite Justin Houston. I’m sure Houston would be thrilled if the Chiefs drafted a fellow Georgia Bulldog to be that guy. Next let’s look at somebody that can help on the interior.
