Third Round

78. Dante Pettis, WR, Washington

With this pick, we can finally analyze the complete trade for Alex Smith resulting in a total haul of Kendall Fuller and now Dante Pettis, the speedy receiver out of Washington.

Going wide receiver isn’t exactly the greatest point of need, but the value here is definite with Pettis in particular and the need might be greater than you think. While edge rusher and even safety are still glaring areas of concern, Brett Veach did say during his recent press conference at the NFL Combine that the team would be in the market for another outside receiver given how well Patrick Mahomes can throw the deep ball. He caught 53 passes last season and 15 of them went for touchdowns.

In addition to his addition to the offense, he would also likely replace De’Anthony Thomas on the roster in terms of returns. He’s one of the most accomplished returners available in this draft, as he comes with three years of experience as a punt returner. He also returned 2 for touchdowns last season alone.
