Second Round

54. Tarvarus McFadden, CB, Florida State

Most of Chiefs Kingdom will be very frustrated if the team does not address the cornerback position on Day 2, with one of their first three picks. There are other areas of need, to be sure, the greatest of which is edge rusher, but if the team takes a cornerback with No. 54 overall, no one will complain.

The Chiefs have already said goodbye to Marcus Peters and Darrelle Revis and could end up losing Kenneth Acker, Terrance Mitchell and Phillip Gaines as well. The only holdover worth mentioning is Steven Nelson and 2018 will be his contract year as well. The Chiefs signed David Amerson to a one-year deal and Kendall Fuller came over in the Alex Smith tade. That means the cupboard is still largely bare and McFadden could be a great addition.

A core of Fuller, McFadden, Amerson and Nelson would be a nice quartet atop the depth chart. McFadden’s level of experience at Florida State should have him pro-ready from the beginning, and at 6’2, he’s definitely got the size and length to play the physical style needed in the Chiefs secondary. McFadden has also shown the ability to generate turnovers in the past, as he led the Seminoles with 8 interceptions in 2016. This year, he didn’t have any interceptions, which likely helped to drop his draft stock out of the first round, but he still had 10 passes defended.
