Canadian Football League players who could draw the Chiefs attention

Roy Finch
Despite the fact that Roy Finch went undrafted after graduating from the University of Oklahoma, the New England Patriots signed him after the 2014 NFL Draft. Unfortunately he was unable to make the final active roster that season, so Finch took his talents up north to the CFL where he’s starred for the last few seasons.

Enter 2018 and it’s clear that Finch has continued to hone his craft while gaining much needed experience. He was the CFL’s Special Teams Player of the Year this last season, taking care of both kick and punt returns for the Calgary Stampeders. He returned 3 punts for touchdowns and averaged a career best 26.8 yards/return on kickoffs as well. He’s averaged a very healthy 14.9 yards per punt return for the last 3 years over a nice sample size of 151 returns.
It also doesn’t hurt that Finch can be a role player on offense as well as a two-way back out of the backfield. Finch averaged 5.4 yards/carry in limited duty (21 carries) as a running back and caught an additional 18 catches for 133 receiving yards.
Chiefs fit? If there’s an electric player who can be a threat to score on kick and punt returns, the Chiefs might be able to move Tyreek Hill out of special teams entirely except for special occasions—helping in terms of player health and rest for the team’s top wide receiver. De’Anthony Thomas is a free agent, so if the Chiefs decide not to bring him back, Finch could be a nice addition to take his spot and compete for the bulk of the team’s return duties.
