Aaron Grymes

Aaron Grymes has been here before, hoping that an NFL team will take notice of his play and give him a chance. Two years ago, in February, 2016, the Philadelphia Eagles loved Grymes’s play as a CFL All-Star so much that they signed him as a free agent. The defensive back stuck with the Eagles in one form or another (active roster, practice squad, reserve/futures deal) until this last September, but was cut just before the team’s Super Bowl season officially started.

He re-signed with Edmonton to play out the rest of the CFL season and stepped right in to be a key performer down the stretch. He had 31 tackles and 1 forced fumble in only six games on the year.

As a former standout cornerback at Idaho, Grymes had 249 tackles in his college career in the WAC with 12 passes defended, 3 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions. He will turn 27 next month.

Chiefs fit? Someone with the grit to stay after their NFL career and even get better over time, who has also shown he’s a willing tackler over the years, is likely someone who can contribute immediately for Dave Toub on special teams. It’s also important to remember the secondary is going to sustain heavy losses in quantity, even if Chiefs fans question the quality. Kenny Acker, Terrance Mitchell, Phillip Gaines and Steven Terrell are all free agents and the team already released Darrelle Revis. That’s a lot of bodies to replace.
