Euclid Cummings

Euclid Cummings came into the 2014 NFL Draft as a major developmental project out of Georgia Tech. A one-year starter, he had decent size (6’4, 275 lbs.) and even better speed (4.79 time in the 40-yard dash at his pro day) for such a big man. He had 37 total tackles and 5.5 of them for a loss during his final year with the Yellow Jackets.

Cummings went undrafted given his “project” status, but his growth in the CFL speaks volumes about his work ethic. He’s getting ever closer to his ceiling as a player yet another year in Canada, this last year winning the Grey Cup with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Cummings has put on another 25 pounds since his college days, making him approximately 300 lbs. these day. Cummings has 19 sacks over the last 3 seasons, including 8 last year for Edmonton along with 3 forced fumbles. He’s also only 26, which means an NFL team could reap dividends for several seasons to come. Then again, that’s assuming a lot.

Chiefs fit? The Chiefs already face a lack of depth along the defensive line and that’s before Bennie Logan and Jarvis Jenkins (and even Stefan Charles) hit free agency. If the Chiefs need to save money, they could also cut Allen Bailey, who is heading into his final season of his extension. He’s due $8 million but it’s unclear if the Chiefs need the space and/or need the depth yet. This makes a lot more sense as a flyer if everyone else departs.
