Kevin Pierre-Louis has March court date for misdemeanor charges

Kevin Pierre-Louis has an upcoming court hearing in March for the multiple misdemeanor charges he faces stemming from a recent arrest.
The next step in the legal proceedings for Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis have been announced after he was recently arrested and charged with three misdemeanors, including possession of THC, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Pierre-Louis is scheduled to appear again in court on March 2 for his hearing, per Tony Rizzo of the Kansas City Star. Pierre-Louis has pled not guilty to all of the charges against him, all misdemeanors, which include driving with an expired registration and driving without a valid license.
Pierre-Louis is just beginning to learn what it’s like to live under the legal cloud that will stay aloft over his offseason in a year that he should be enjoying the promise of the open market after his best season as a linebacker in the National Football League. After being stuck on the bench for the Seattle Seahawks, serving only on special teams, Pierre-Louis grew into a solid contributor at inside linebacker in rotation with Reggie Ragland and Derrick Johnson.

General manager Brett Veach traded for Pierre-Louis last summer in a rare straight-up positional swap of two linebackers. The Seahawks received D.J. Alexander, who made the Pro Bowl as a special teams ace a la Steve Tasker, in exchange for Pierre-Louis. The Chiefs believed there was potential there despite the fact that KPL was languishing on the bench and the gamble paid off, at least in the interim.
Now, however, the Chiefs face some difficult decisions regarding Pierre-Louis. Had they stuck with Alexander, they would still enjoy a linebacker under cheap contract. KPL’s contract, however, is already up, meaning the Chiefs either need to pay up a bit more to keep the linebacker around or watch him leave via free agency.
What helps the Chiefs’ cause, however, if they remain interested despite the arrest, is that Pierre-Louis’s stock has to be lower now due to the pending charges. Guilty or not guilty, such a cloud over a player will likely keep some front offices from making any offer at all.
