The Denver Broncos might decide to get rid of their head coach after just one season if rumors about Vance Joseph are true.

Vance Joseph might be coaching for his job when the Denver Broncos face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. It might sound a bit soon for Joseph, who is still trying to finish up his first year as a head coach, but rumors posted at Pro Football Talk by Mike Florio say that he could be “one-and-done” in 2017.

The Broncos have certainly disappointed this season, with a current record of 5-10 in the AFC West. Star players like Von Miller have spoken out at various points this season, showing a frustration with the team’s record and, specifically, the offense at various points. A rotation of Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler has resulted in one of the worst overall performances at quarterback in the NFL, wasting a full season of strong defensive efforts from Miller, Chris Harris, Aqib Talib and more.

Currently in last place in the AFC West, the Broncos could be a nice turnaround in 2018 if they are able to solve their offensive woes fairly quickly. There are enough remnants of a Super Bowl caliber defense in place to do some damage in the division, and a new quarterback could revitalize playmakers like Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and an emerging target like Cody Latimer.

If Joseph is fired, it could be difficult to convince another potential head coaching candidate to take the job knowing that John Elway is so keen on instant results. Turnover has also been high at the coordinator level as well, making it hard to develop a young quarterback like Lynch.

As for what Joseph could do next, his lack of experience even as a coordinator level could be problematic. He only had a single season in Miami as the Dolphins defensive coordinator after serving as a defensive backs coach for years with the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals. Perhaps if Marvin Lewis lands another gig, Joseph could hook on there.
