Washington Redskins defensive back and captain D.J. Swearinger thinks his defense will face a “tough task” trying to stop Kareem Hunt.
The Kansas City Chiefs have beaten every opponent so far in 2017 by at least a single touchdown. Even last week in a close game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs ended up by 14 points in the final score. A major element of their success moving the chains and putting up points this season has been the talents of running back Kareem Hunt, a rookie setting more NFL marks each week with his ability to break tackles and catch passes.
As the Chiefs prepare to host the Washington Redskins in primetime on Monday Night Football in Week 4, Washington safety D.J Swearinger says defending Hunt is going to be a “tough task” for the defensive unit he captains.
"“He puts his foot down in the ground and gets vertical, he breaks tackles. He’s an all-around back, catches the ball out of the backfield, so we definitely have our hands full with him, he’s definitely going to be a good back in the near future and we got our hands full, can’t wait to play him, though”"

So far in 2017, Hunt is leading not only all rookie running backs but veterans as well in a number of categories. He’s the NFL’s overall leader in rushing yards with 401, rushing touchdowns with 4, yards per carry with 8.5 and total yards from scrimmage with 538. While most expected Hunt to be a perfect fit with the Chiefs and praised his pro potential coming out of Toledo, no one at all expected the sort of historic season that Hunt is enjoying thus far.
Even if Washington is able to account for Hunt’s presence on the field and respond accordingly, they will simultaneously need to do the same with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill among others. In Hunt’s worst performance of the season, against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, the Eagles held Hunt to only 109 yards from scrimmage total but Kelce made them pay for it with an 8-catch, 103-yard performance.
Swearinger sounds up to the challenge. It will be interesting to see how things play out on Monday night in front of a stadium of fans at Arrowhead.
