Kansas City Chiefs DB Ashton Lampkin said via Twitter that his surgery went successfully to repair a torn ACL.
The Kansas City Chiefs placed cornerback Ashton Lampkin on injured reserve just before the regular season began as they sorted out the roster before final cuts were made. It was then that we learned that the Oklahoma State product had suffered from a torn ACL, making him unavailable to play for the 2017 season. Lampkin faces a long road ahead of rehab and recovery, but the good news is that the initial surgery apparently went well according to Lampkin himself.

Lampkin first joined the Chiefs immediately following the 2017 NFL Draft as a rookie free agent along his college teammate Jordan Sterns, also a defensive back. Both players lasted through rookie minicamp and earned roster spots heading into training camp, but thatâs where Sternsâ journey ended.

Lampkin continued to make a strong enough impression on the Chiefs coaching staff and front office that he lasted completely through the preseason with the team, a good sign for his long-term future. Unfortunately he wonât be able to join the team on the field as a practice squad player given his current injury.
The good news for Lampkin at this point is that the Chiefs are clearly invested enough to want him around. They placed him on injured reserve which should give him regular access to the teamâs staff and facilities as he attempts to return to form. He was a special teams ace for the Cowboys in college, and Dave Toub is likely going to want to work with him next year, assuming Lampkin can bounce back successfully.
Lampkin had 34 total tackles, 3 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles for Oklahoma State in 2016.
