Chiefs release first depth chart: 10 observations
By Austin Owen
Bryan Witzmann’s emergence
Left guard is the only spot on the offensive line that has some uncertainty at this point. It was a bit of a surprise when Witzmann signed a contract extension two weeks ago, but it makes sense now. Second year pro Parker Ehinger is the assumed starter, but currently finds himself third behind Witzmann and Zach Fulton as he recovers from an ACL tear a year ago.
Continuity on the offensive line can be a great strength. Ehinger played well before his injury last fall, if he can find his way back to the starting lineup, the line could be a strength for this offense.
Harris staves off competition
There is a lot of competition in the tight end position. Demetrius Harris has held down his spot as the Chiefs No. 2 tight end for the last two seasons, but he struggled a year ago, posting one of the worst drop percentages in the league. That was just one of the factors that led Kansas City to bring in Gavin Escobar on a one-year contract. Escobar has looked good so far in camp, as has second year man Ross Travis. It will be interesting to see if Harris can hold this spot down.
