Mahomes as 3rd quarterback

This, obviously, is the one most people are interested in. Patrick Mahomes is the future in Kansas City. While he likely won’t play a significant role this season, people are eager to see him hit the field.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the QB rankings on this chart. While Tyler Bray does have quite a bit of experience in Andy Reid’s system, I don’t think he’ll be able to hold Mahomes off. Mahomes has shown a lot of improvement so far in camp, barring a very poor preseason, he should be your number two guy.

Second-tier receivers

This is going to be one of the most interesting position battles throughout camp. Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley seem to be solidly in place as the top two wideouts. However, after that, it’s anyone’s guess. Seantavius Jones is a name to watch. He currently finds himself behind De’Anthony Thomas and ahead of fourth round pick Jehu Chesson. Jones has been a constant highlight in camp thus far, making a handful of eye-popping plays. I would watch for Jones, Albert Wilson, and Chesson to really battle it out over the next few weeks.

Chesson is seemingly a lock given the Chiefs traded up to select him. I suspect whoever loses out in this battle will be a good candidate for the practice squad. This group is very crowded. Wide receiver could turn out to be a position of strength rather than the weak spot we were expecting.
