Bryan Witzmann signs contract extension with Kansas City Chiefs
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs have signed offensive tackle Bryan Witzmann to a contract extension, although terms were not immediately available.
The Kansas City Chiefs have apparently locked up their swing tackle of the future with the belief that he might just be the man for the present at some point. Bryan Witzmann has reached an extension with the Chiefs in one of Brett Veach’s first moves as general manager.
Witzmann is a big body at 6’7, 320 lbs. who bounced around with a few teams since first appearing in the NFL with the Houston Texans in 2014 before finding a home in Kansas City in 2016. Coming out of South Dakota State, it’s no surprise that Witzmann took some time to find his footing. However, the Chiefs are clearly high on Witzmann’s potential, especially given his incredible stature.

Witzmann appeared in 11 games last season for the Chiefs and his extension could mean that more experienced players in camp are in jeopardy. Zach Fulton, Jah Reid, Mike Person and Andrew Tiller are all very experienced players competing for just a few spots to back-up along the offensive line. Now that Witzmann is firmly in place, the odds become a bit leaner for those vets looking for a home for 2017.
Witzmann also spent time on the practice squads of the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints before landing with the Chiefs in 2016.
Before his extension, Over the Cap had Witzmann’s cap hit at $540,000, the result of a two-year contract originally signed with the Cowboys that the Chiefs then picked up once they claimed him on waivers.
