After free agent visits this week, Jeremy Maclin is reportedly going to take his time before making a final decision on his new home.

The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens have made their official pitches to Jeremy Maclin. They’ve had their own wide receivers try to woo him and they’ve wined and dined the free agent wide receiver over the last few days in the hopes of convincing him to sign with their respective teams. Now the word is that the former Kansas City Chiefs star wants to wait a bit before deciding on his next home.

The patient approach makes perfect sense for a player who has no sense of urgency to sign anywhere soon. The NFL offseason is entering a dead period and there’s likely very little that could happen to change the market for Maclin. He’s the best wide receiver available, even after the New York Jets released Eric Decker, and teams were scrambling to get him to visit for a reason. It wouldn’t surprise us to even see more teams enter the fray and bring in Maclin for a visit.

Even more important for Maclin is a complete reorientation of where he is at this point in his career. After all, he was only two years into a five-year deal and his release from the Chiefs likely came as a shock, as it did to pretty much anyone else who heard the news. Maclin needs to figure out whether he wants to wait a year and look for another long-term deal when free agency is at its zenith next March or whether the few teams with a need and cap space are good enough options right now to seek some security.

Maclin had 44 catches last season for 536 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns for the Chiefs.
