Former Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin will be visiting the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

A week ago at this time, Jeremy Maclin was sitting atop the depth chart at wide receiver as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. This week, he’s taking free agent visits with the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, as he begins his free agent tour after being released surprisingly last Friday.

It will be an interesting day for all parties involved as the Chiefs players come together on Tuesday as well for another round of organized team activities, arriving for the first time since Maclin was cut. Andy Reid and others will likely address Maclin’s absence when speaking to the media on Tuesday.

Maclin was due to make over $12 million this season with the Chiefs, so the release of the star wideout provides the team with $10 million in breathing room. Shortly thereafter they announced the signing of running back Kareem Hunt and the rest of the rookie class should follow suit soon enough. Maclin’s spot on the roster was taken by former Memphis product Tevin Jones, who came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent last season.

LeSean McCoy has been publicly championing the idea of Jeremy Maclin joining the Bills since his release, and it’s good news that they are up first. If the Bills flash enough cash and love for Maclin, they might be able to keep him from making the rounds. Then again, Maclin is in a high-leverage spot. Despite a down year last season of only 44 catches and 536 receiving yards, he is still a prized wideout who was gifted to the open market. He will have his choice of suitors and could take his time to figure out where exactly he wants to land.

For the Bills, the signing of Maclin would bring some security to a corps that has to worry about the oft-injured Sammy Watkins and the currently injured Zay Jones. For the Ravens, it would be a way to replace the 100-plus targets due to Dennis Pitta, who has been sidelined with another hip injury.
