Round 5 (No. 180 overall)

Used or traded: Traded in package of picks to move up and select WR Jehu Chesson

Danny Isidora, OG, Miami

Does this fit: Three-year starter at Miami who would bring good game experience and a very athletic frame to the next level. Isidora was one of the fastest linemen at the NFL Combine yet weighed in at 6-3, 306 lbs. The Chiefs have lots of competition at guard, but adding a young developmental player could help as back-ups like Zach Fulton become free agents after this season.

Other picks available that make sense for the Chiefs: The Chiefs traded up just a few slots below this to grab Georgia Southern linebacker Ukeme Eligwe, so that’s likely the real best choice here, based on their homework. Just before that, UTEP RB Aaron Jones, who set the school’s all-time rushing records this year, drew interviews from the Chiefs as well.

Round 6 (No. 216 overall)

Used or traded: Traded along with James O’Shaughnessy for Patriots 5th round pick (used to take Ga. Southern LB Ukeme Eligwe)

Marquez White, CB, Florida State

Does this fit: Marquez White, as with any sixth round cornerback taken, needs to be a strong special teamer, which fortunately he was for the Florida State Seminoles in his career. A two-year starter, White’s instincts and tackling skills aren’t reportedly the strongest per scouts, but he did only allow a single touchdown the last two years.

Other picks available that make sense for the Chiefs: The Chiefs are thinking back-up defensive back at this point with the selection of McQuay just two spots from now (see next slide). The Chiefs just missed on chances to grab both Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya and Washington defensive tackle Elijah Qualls who were both taken immediately before this. Offensive tackle prospect Corey Levin went immediately after this and was a nice small-school prospect who projected well per some scouts.
