Dear John Dorsey: Go get the Kansas City Chiefs a quarterback
The week of the 2017 NFL Draft is finally here. All the weeks of discussion, all the scouting reports looked over, all the game film reviewed, all the mock drafts we’ve either agreed with or laughed at will all finally come to a close. We will finally get to see what players our beloved Kansas City Chiefs walk away with.
I thought about doing my own personal mock draft this week. I even started to put it together. If you read my posts the past two weeks, I gave you both my offensive and defensive draft crushes, so you know that I have players that I would love to see wind up in Kansas City. What I ultimately decided is that there is only one thing I really want the Chiefs to do in this draft. After that everything else is just icing on the cake. What I really want more than every other position combined is for the Chiefs and General Manager John Dorsey to identify their quarterback of the future and go get him.
Look, I know this isn’t exactly earth shattering news here. I get that most of the Chiefs Kingdom is buzzing about the possibility of the Chiefs finally ending their draught of not taking a quarterback in the first round. I just want to go on record one last time before the draft begins and explain why I am all in on Kansas City going after their man at quarterback in this draft. I’m not talking about waiting around and seeing who is available at pick No. 27. I’m talking about Dorsey saying, “We want [insert name here] to be the quarterback we build this franchise around for the next decade” and then doing whatever it takes to go get that guy.
Just how “all in” on this idea am I? 100 percent.
I’d even be fine if they traded away a truck load of picks to move into the top ten somewhere and take the first quarterback of the draft. I’m talking about giving up multiple first and second round picks. I know some of you may think that this is crazy talk. I know some of you may think there isn’t a quarterback worth trading up that high for. I know some of you may think the Chiefs have too many other needs to invest so much into a player that likely wouldn’t even see the field in 2017.
Let’s address some of those concerns, starting with there not being a quarterback worth trading up for.
