The NFL Draft is only about ten days away and fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are anxiously awaiting to see which players their favorite team selects this year. If you are as fanatical about the NFL draft as I am you probably already have your own list of favorite players that you are hoping that the Chiefs will select on draft day. If you haven’t had much time to look into prospective players then allow me to share a few of my “draft crushes” for this draft class with you. If you missed last week’s post on my favorite offensive players I encourage you to click on the link to see which quarterback, running back, and tight ends I think would be great in Kansas City. This week I am turning my attention to the defense.

The defense is definitely in a different position than the offense. While the offense needs a jump start the defense really just needs some reinforcements. I feel like they could start the season today and have a good defense with the players that are already on the roster. That having been said, there are definitely areas that can be improved (cough…the run defense…cough) and they are in need of some long term replacements in a couple of spots.

I am on record as wanting the Chiefs to draft a quarterback in the first round and have gone so far as to advocate for trading up in order to get the guy that they want. Because of this I haven’t spent a ton of time studying first round defensive prospects. I have looked at the defenders that seem most likely to be options at pick twenty-seven (mostly linebackers and cornerbacks) so that if (or sadly when) the Chiefs don’t take a quarterback I will be prepared. I spent more time looking at guys that are likely to be taken in rounds 2-5 that I still believe can make an impact. So you will see one defender on this list of draft crushes that is definitely a first rounder but the other four (with one possible exception) aren’t first round guys.

Let’s start with the first round talent that I really love.
