The Philadelphia Eagles have officially switched back-up quarterbacks behind Carson Wentz, replacing Chase Daniel with Nick Foles.

The Philadelphia Eagles have switched out one former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback for another with the announcement of a new two-year deal for free agent Nick Foles and the corresponding release of Chase Daniel.

Daniel was the Chiefs back-up for Alex Smith for three seasons before Foles became the back-up last year. Daniel left last offseason to pursue a starting opportunity with the Eagles but two months later, the Eagles moved up in the draft to select Carson Wentz at No. 2 overall, leaving Daniel without the starting option he desired.

The switch is likely about that very idea, as the team signed Foles to clearly be a No. 2 quarterback in the NFL. Hopefully the release will given Daniel the chance to find a place where he can truly compete as a No. 1 quarterback with a team that hasn’t made such an obvious investment in just one player.

"“Chase’s professionalism and intelligence were valuable assets to our quarterback room,” said Howie Roseman via a press release. “His veteran leadership was incredibly helpful in Carson’s development as a rookie, and his familiarity with Coach Pederson’s offense was instrumental in installing our system last season. We greatly appreciate Chase’s time here and wish him well as he continues his football career.”"

Both men are familiar with Doug Pederson, the current Eagles head coach and former Chiefs offensive coordinator. Foles would remember Peterson from his tenure with the Eagles when he first came into the league.
