Jerry Jones is reportedly having a rough time getting another franchise to pay anything to secure Tony Romo’s services.

The Tony Romo rumor carousel continues to spin after several days marked by no actual movement. The Dallas Cowboys still list Romo on the roster despite several teams being linked to Romo in one way or another, including the Dallas Cowboys, and questions of whether or not he will be released or traded. Jerry Jones, the team’s owner, warned reporters that he wasn’t in a hurry to make a decision, and so far he’s proven that to be true.

The latest rumors on Friday had Romo likely going to either the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans, but so far nothing has shaken out in either direction. The Texans have already cleared the cap space and the roster spot when they traded Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns, however it’s clear they don’t want to trade additional draft assets after being forced to include a second round pick just to get Osweiler off the books. The Broncos have also flinched at any notion of a trade, choosing instead to wait until Romo is a free agent.

If Romo hits the market, it’s impossible to say whether or not he will choose either place, since both Denver and Houston have myriad reasons for Romo to consider signing there. Houston remains close to home with a playoff-caliber defense. Denver is farther away but won a recent Super Bowl and the window to win another remains open for at least another season. Both offenses also boast nice playmakers to whom Romo can depend.

At some point, Jones will have to do right by Romo and allow him to settle into his new home. Hopefully it will be sooner than later or we’ll all be enduring these rumors for some time.
