Chicago Bears add former Chiefs defenders to secondary
By Matt Conner
The Bears have already signed Quintin Demps earlier in free agency, and now they’ve reached a multi-year deal with cornerback Marcus Cooper.
On Saturday, the Chicago Bears announced that the franchise had come to terms with free agent cornerback Marcus Cooper on a new three-year contract. The veteran joins the Bears after a single season with the Arizona Cardinals, and joins safety Quintin Demps as newly signed players who used to suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cooper started his NFL career with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent and spent three seasons in K.C., playing in 38 games and making 11 starts in that stint. Cooper made an early impact in the secondary with 3 interceptions in his first season, but his play slipped over time and he slowly faded on the depth chart. He did enjoy a resurgent year in 2016 with the Cardinals with a career-high 4 interceptions last season in 13 starts and 11 passes defended.
Demps is another playing defensive back with a nose for the ball, as illustrated by his 6 interceptions last year for the Houston Texans. Demps played only 1 season in Kansas City in 2013 before moving on to the New York Giants and then finally the Texans. The Bears will be Demps’ 5th NFL team.
Both players are joined by Prince Amukamara as newcomers to the Bears pass defense.
