Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars have been trying out defensive end Greg Hardy despite his numerous character issues.  However, the team is expected to hold off on a decision until they can properly gauge public reaction.

  • Author’s Take: This is how you can tell the ownership is getting tired of excuses and promises.  The leadership of this team clearly feels they have to do something to bring success now.

Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs were unable to come to terms with safety Eric Berry on a contract extension, with reports stating the two sides were very far apart and unable to agree on a single aspect of a new deal.

  • Chiefs’ Take: There will be pressure on general manager John Dorsey to replace Berry following this season.  The Chiefs have limited financial resources and will be relying heavily on the draft.
  • Author’s Take

: This was a mistake.  Berry has brought a lot of versatility to the Chiefs defense, and he will be very tough to replace.  I just hope Chiefs fans aren’t in for a painful reminder of the days of Jon McGraw and Sabby Piscitelli.  The odds of that happening are just as good, if not better, than the odds of finding a quality replacement for Berry.

Los Angeles Rams: The Rams opted to not sign cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a contract extension.  This was largely the expected move since Johnson was placed on the Franchise Tag earlier this offseason.  The Rams reportedly also plan to bring Nick Foles into Training Camp and see if a trade option develops.

New York Jets: In the biggest surprise of the Franchise Tag deadline, the Jets signed defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to a five year contract extension.  A rumor has been floated out there that with Wilkerson under contract, the Jets are now focused on bringing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick back into the fold with a new deal.  However, it appears they may have to contend with the Patriots for his services.  Also standing in the way is Jets first-round pick Darron Lee who is one of just three NFL draftees left unsigned.
