Philadelphia Eagles: Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has informed reporters that the current plan for 2nd overall pick, quarterback Carson Wentz, is to make him inactive for at least the first week of the 2016 regular season.

  • Author’s Take: This is a smart move on the part of Pederson, and shows there was at least some wisdom in hiring him.  Not many coaches would take the patient route with the 2nd overall pick in the draft, but a former quarterback and offensive coordinator understands that you don’t rush a player.

San Diego Chargers: There has apparently been no movement on the signing of 1st round pick Joey Bosa.  Bosa’s camp has asked for a set of guarantees that the Chargers seem unwilling to even consider.

  • Chiefs’ Take: The longer it takes for Bosa to get signed, the less time he’ll have to learn and adjust to the NFL.  Good news for the rest of the division.
  • Author’s Take: Not really sure why the Chargers wouldn’t be doing everything they can to get their guy under contract and ready to go.  If you thought he was worth that high a draft pick, should have been resigned to paying the full value.

San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers also have yet to sign their 1st round pick, Josh Garnett.  However, there has been very little mentioned about this contract situation.

Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks appear to have entered some turbulent contract waters with defensive end Michael Bennett.  The team has been said for some time now to have gotten a bargain with his last contract, and Bennett is taking notice and voicing his thoughts.

Washington Redskins: It’s official.  Quarterback Kirk Cousins will play the 2016 NFL season on the Franchise Tag.  This puts Cousins in line for Free Agency, and a big pay day, in 2017 if he plays well.

  • Chiefs’ Take: No, Cousins coming to Kansas City in 2017 is not out of the realm of possibilities.  It’s a long shot to be sure, but not impossible.  If Andy Reid and John Dorsey see a quarterback they like, history tells us they’ll go get him.
  • Author’s Take: This is just foolish on the part of the Redskins.  Cousins has no reason to return to Washington in 2017, and the team may be forced to use the Franchise Tag on him again.  This is another case of disconnect in the team leadership as owner Dan Snyder has never been a believer in Cousins, and Snyder is never afraid to flex his muscle inside that organization.
