The offseason workouts are almost completed and it’s just about time to gear up for Training Camp. Let’s face it, this is the dead time of the year for NFL reporting. Realistically, all you can do is look to the past or to the future, because there’s little of anything going on in the present. Well, I’m not one to dwell on the past…so on to the future it is.

And up first in my book is a topic that comes around every year, though usually not until we’ve been hit in the face with a story about a player being moved or released that we didn’t see coming. When teams start the offseason, most fans have already sort of developed a sense of who is going to be doing what for the team. Everyone has their predictions ready to go.
Some of these predictions are pretty easy…Alex Smith is your starting quarterback. Some are a bit more difficult to see coming…Albert Wilson is the #2 receiver. However, what is the most fun is when a surprise player comes out of almost nowhere and makes the team. Demetrius Harris in 2013. Albert Wilson in 2014. Spencer Ware in 2015.
It happens all the time. Someone you never heard of before ends up making a big splash. And when that happens, it also means that somebody else has to go.
But of all the players on this roster, he’s the one who needs football the least.
And that’s what I really want to talk about today. Who will be that big surprise on the cutting board this year? Who is going to lose a spot that many of us figured was all but his? Well, I’ve got five names for you that fit the bill.
