As we press on through this offseason, we are starting to see the Free Agency signings slow down to a crawl.  This is good for mock draft season because it means teams are essentially done adding talent for now until they see what the draft can bestow.  For the Chiefs, the big question marks remain in the secondary where they still have multiple spots to fill.

More from Kansas City Chiefs Draft

While there has been recent talk about Jamell Flemming moving to safety, that doesn’t feel like a real answer to me and I think it’s more about the Chiefs trying to find an extended role for him when the competition starts coming from younger guys.  Teams do that a lot with depth and special teams players.

While being a Special Teams contributor will get you a job, you need to be able to do a lot more to keep that job long term.  Even Frank Zombo was surprised when the Chiefs reached out to re-sign him.  So don’t think that moving Flemming will deter John Dorsey from addressing the deep secondary multiple times.

But beyond on the field needs, there is another elephant in the room.  In last week’s mock draft, AA reader and chat board veteran, TAZMOSIS, brought up the fact that it seems as though most writers seem to be conceding that the Chiefs have lost their third-round pick and will do nothing to get it back.

Obviously that is not the case as the team has officially appealed their punishment.  However, the perspective that many are conceding the pick is understandable.  I am not including the third-round pick in my current mock drafts, but that does not reflect my opinion on the matter.

When I exclude that 3rd round pick, it is simply because that is how the situation stands as of now.  While I believe the punishment will be changed, until that has actually happened, it would be too presumptive of me to include the pick in current mock drafts.

But I’ve got a way the Chiefs can address both of the above issues.  In this week’s mock draft, we have the Chief making a trade with the Browns that nets a few extra picks, and even a potential home run in a player acquisition…

I invite everyone to offer up their opinions own mocks in the comments section.  Mock drafts are meant for interaction and discussion.  There are still plenty of players I need to study up on, so I’m sure I have missed more than a few that other people are interested in.
