As the Kansas City Chiefs continue to move on in the playoffs, one man and his staff won’t be focusing as much on the games.

John Dorsey and the Chiefs front office are going to be working hard.  Now is the time of the year that NFL front offices are truly starting to ramp up their plans for the offseason.  Re-signing current players, adding futures contracts, diving into the free agency market, preparing for the draft, and searching for hidden gems in the aftermath of the draft are the areas where a General Manager will make or break his career.  And right now is when the most amount of work is being done.

Why right now?  Well, a couple of reasons really.  First, by this point in time, every team knows who they are and what they are about.  Strengths, weaknesses, and development are all pretty well covered.  A coaching staff can confidently report to the front office what is working, what isn’t, and what could or could not work for the following years.  Second, the scouting reports should pretty much be done.  The NCAA season is over and, if a front office got their logistics straight, their scouts have seen the vast majority of prospects in action and are ready to start giving feedback.

That also makes this the perfect time for fans to start getting their checklists ready.  While the postseason high is the driving force for most of Chiefs Kingdom, there are many who know that both maintaining and improving upon success is the key to a top tier franchise.  And that means putting in the work in the offseason.

To kick this series off, I’m going to start in the same spot that Dorsey and his crew are starting…the in-house options.  The players already on our roster that the Chiefs need to take a hard look at and decide whether they will be on the 2016 roster or not.  So here we go…
