NFL rankings: Week 1

21. New York Giants – Eli Manning just got a big pay day despite the team steadily moving backwards. Stats mean nothing if they don’t turn into wins.
22. New York Jets – Any day that a Jets quarterback doesn’t make a headline is a good day. Even if they had Geno Smith available, this doesn’t look good.
23. New Orleans Saints – Drew Brees is still a top quarterback, but the roster that is around him doesn’t look very good. They traded away their future in Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills.
24. Detroit Lions – Only so much Calvin Johnson can do. The man isn’t Optimus Prime. The defense is definitely not as strong as they were.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars – This team is more talented than it has been, but still don’t feel like there is an identity.
26. Oakland Raiders – They’re moving in the right direction, but this team is still more potential than proven.
27. Tampa Bay Buccanneers – Jameis Winston could be poised to have a big year with all the weapons around him. Still a rookie though.
28. Cleveland Browns – Quarterbacks suck…running backs suck…wide receivers suck…how is this team going to score any points?
29. Washington Redskins – What is there to like about this team? There is a clear divide in this organization based around Robert Griffin III. Not really “his fault”, but doesn’t change the situation.

30. Chicago Bears – From top to bottom, this team has major questions. John Fox is looking at the long-term, but it doesn’t help their record this year.
31. San Francisco 49ers – I expected the 49ers to slide a little more this year, but then they had the offseason from hell. Anything that could have gone wrong for them, has.
32. Tennessee Titans – This team just looks bad. Marcus Mariota may be the future, but I don’t know that I can say the same about anyone else on this roster.
So that’s how it works out folks. These rankings are going to change a lot over the next 17 weeks. Ultimately, it’s not anyone’s opinion that matters, it’s what these teams prove out on the field.
