Kansas City Chiefs: top position battles of the 2015 offseason
By Brett Gering
No. 2 cornerback: Marcus Peters vs. Phillip Gaines
Let’s be honest: No one knows what to expect from Sean Smith. In 2014, he looked like a lock-down defender; the year prior, he looked like James Harden.
Logic would tell you that he’s more likely to continue last year’s trend, but the man is two years removed from being torched by Seyi Ajirotutu.
Regardless, Smith, who graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 5 corner last season, is cemented at the top of the depth chart.
The No. 2 spot is isn’t as clear-cut. Phillip Gaines is a starting-caliber corner who has a year of experience under his belt, but Marcus Peters is already being compared to all-time greats.
