2. The Defense Needs To keep The Oressure On

Oct 5, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (7) is defended by Kansas City Chiefs linebackers Josh Mauga (90) and Justin Houston (90) at Levi

Phillip Rivers is making a strong case for MVP in 2014.

During the five-game winning streak, Rivers is boasting a 71 percent completion rate and 300-plus yards per game. Furthermore, he has thrown 14 touchdowns to only one interception—strong numbers for sure.

However, a better number—and one that favors the Chiefs—is the 9 sacks he has suffered.. The Chiefs have two—count them, two—Pro Bowl linebackers in Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

If the Chiefs want to get into the mind of a surgical quarterback, they need to bring the pain on every down. The Chargers are also light in running backs, but with Brandon Oliver—the second coming of Darren Sproles—Kansas City needs to contain the backfield as well. Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton is going to have to put together a game plan to force turnovers and derail Rivers’ hot streak.

If he does so, the Chiefs will have a shot.
