5. Alex Smith’s late interception

Rolling your eyes should be the only reaction you have the next time a player tells the media that no one game is more important than the others. Players would have you believe that every game is just another day at the office, but we always see evidence to the contrary. Look no further than Steve Smith’s Week 4 performance against his old team. He turned in seven catches, 139 yards, and two touchdowns in that contest.

The Chiefs’ final drive was an almost cinematic platform for Alex Smith to stage the biggest “told you so” in the NFL this young season. Smith wanted nothing more than to prove San Francisco made a mistake in choosing Colin Kaepernick to lead them into the future. I know that because I saw him do something he rarely does. He threw the ball downfield into what was essentially triple coverage. Completing that pass required a precision throw that can be tough for any quarterback to make in a comeback situation. Smith threw high and Kansas City’s chances of stealing a game in Levi’s Stadium were flushed.

The bye week will provide a much-needed gut check for the Kansas City Chiefs. They’ll resume their season with another tough road game in San Diego. Will self-inflicted wounds continue to spoil KC’s chances of a return to the postseason or will the Chiefs bounce back and play more mistake-free football? Are the Chiefs still in good position to make a run at a wildcard spot in the AFC? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Use the comment section below to weigh in.
