A Magical Monday: By The Numbers

The Chiefs defense held tight end Rob Gronkowski to just one catch through three quarters of the game. Gronk caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but was otherwise held to just 31 receiving yards on the night. If there was a “How to Beat the New England Patriots” checklist, limiting Gronkowski would be at the top of it. He’s been a shell of himself this season, but he’s still quite capable of being a thorn in a defense’s side. Due largely to the game defensive coordinator Bob Sutton called, Gronk was a non-factor for most of the game.

I saved the best for last — and by best, I mean the “best fans in the National Football League.” 76,613 rabid fans piled into Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night and re-established it as the world’s loudest outdoor stadium. Guinness officials were on hand to record the attempt and they certified a new world record of 142.2 decibels in the first half of the contest. That shatters the previous record held by the Seattle Seahawks’ fans by more than four decibels (137.6 dB).

Kansas City once again proved it boasts one of the best fanbases in all of professional sports. Chiefs fans came out in top form and made playing in Arrowhead a living hell for the Patriots. Very early in the game you could tell that the noise level was affecting their ability to communicate on the field. That kind of disruption, coupled with a fierce Kansas City pass rush, made for one long night for Tom Brady and company.

What say you, Addicts? Were there other numbers of note that I omitted from my list? What eye-popping statistic got your attention last night? I’d love to hear what you have to say in the comment section below. As always, we appreciate your readership and support.

Until next time, Addicts.
