Jeer #1: Turnovers

Two more turnovers by the offense and no turnovers forced by the defense. That makes a minus-five turnover ratio for the Chiefs after three games.

Alex Smith fumbled while running for his life after another blitz was failed to be picked up. He has some space up the middle of the field but he got caught from behind and coughed up the ball. Yes, Smith has to hold onto the ball better, but given the way he’s running around all the time it is a wonder he doesn’t fumble more often.

Kansas City’s inability to force turnovers is perplexing. Sean Smith had a couple of chances at interceptions in this game that he just missed. James-Michael Johnson was also a half-step away from a pick six. Some of those things will bounce the Chiefs way eventually but the Chiefs also have to do a better job of creating their own luck. This is part of where not having Derrick Johnson and Eric Berry on the field hurts the Chiefs.
