Cheer #2: Red Zone

The Chiefs were three-for-three in the red zone with all of the scores be touchdowns in Sunday’s win. Cashing red zone appearances had been an issue for the Chiefs through the first two weeks and cost them a victory against the Broncos.

The running back and quick screen game were more efficiently used this week in the red zone, which may have been the adjustment. Gone were the play action passes and in came Knile Davis plowing through people. Quick screens to Joe McKnight also helped the Chiefs get to the edge quickly and effectively. Those passes are almost running plays on a certain level.

Getting Jamaal Charles back eventually will help out what the Chiefs do in the passing game in the red zone. Until then finding a power running game and a way to get the ball on the edge in a timely fashion should help the Chiefs score more points in the future.
