Mike Devito, DE

Previous Team: New York Jets

Contract Details: Three-year, $12.6 Million

2014 Cap Number: $4.9 Million

Grade: B

Mike Devito came to the Chiefs from the Jets. The biggest news surrounding his signing was the fact that he knew defensive coordinator Bob Sutton’s scheme, having played for him in New York. The Chiefs were in desparate need of a defensive end to fill the hole left by Glenn Dorsey as he moved on in free agency and it seemed Devito was it. I think this was a solid signing by Dorsey and Devito’s solid play actually made Tyson Jackson and Dontari Poe play better. I think he’s a solid vet who definitely helped the Chiefs stop the run up front. He was a huge reason why everyone said the Chiefs had a solid front seven, and he definitely has a nose for the ball.

It will be interesting to see how Devito plays in his second year with the Chiefs. Jackson will likely be out in Kansas City, and the team will have to either bring someone in to fill that spot or promote another player from the roster. I would look to Devito to continue to playing well in 2014.
