Being a NFL fan challenges our sense of what it means to be part of civilized humanity. The cultured human part that once said, “I will no longer think of my group as better or worse than your group” is thrown away in favor of… “I can call my team any name I want no matter who it offends.” See Washington “Redskins” owner Daniel Snyder.

It’s really the source of all mis-understandings. When a member of any one group acts as if they are better or have more rights than a member of another group, there is inequality and this country, our country, America, and the principles America was founded upon, depend upon us operating with this core principle: that all men and women are created equally.

Of course that is unless they are Raiders fans. As great Kansas City Chiefs fans, and Americans, we know we can tease Raiders fans and vice versa. It comes with the territory. However, if that teasing takes on the expression of “a true inner hatred” that is acted upon verbally or physically… then there will be people hurt, laws that are broken and American values trashed.

Some Americans don’t get it such as Daniel Snyder. By maintaining the name of “red skins” it’s obvious he doesn’t embody a “humane understanding” and he doesn’t mind snubbing his nose at more than common decency. He’s breaking the laws of the land and alienating 500 races of people in the process.

What laws, you may ask? Laws against harassment.

Harassment is unwelcome conduct that is based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.

Daniel Snyder may believe that since he’s insulated by his wealth, that these concepts and ideations are worthless. His value system seems to be monetary while his morals are arbitrary.

There are some Indian tribal names rich in heritage in the regions surrounding the Washington DC area. How hard can it be? Please pick one Mr. Snyder. Then, you could honor a specific tribe instead of ridiculing so many races of people.

On Sunday Night Football, during the halftime of the Washington/Dallas game Bob Costas weighed in on the subject, the best that a prime time network sports announcer could. Meaning, one could easily come away with the sense that Costas was holding back and would have liked to say much more than he did.

This week on “Inside the NFL” regular co-host Cris Collinsworth literally got up on a soapbox to voice his opinion on the “Redskins” name and joined the ranks to denounce the name saying, “In this day and age, it just doesn’t work” also calling it “derogatory.”

On Sept. 6, Peter King made his position clear about the name and vowed to stop using it on his MMQB site and will only be calling them “the Washington football team” going forward.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

I highly subscribe to this doctrine and believe it captures the very essence of what is wrong with the bigotry and the racism that is expressed by naming your sports team the same name of a skin color of a race of people.

Marilyn Monroe once said, “A strong man doesn’t have to be dominant toward a woman. He doesn’t match his strength against a woman weak with love for him. He matches it against the world.” What we need now is a strong man to step up and do what’s right.

Marilyn got it. How about you Daniel? Or will you continue to prey upon the weak?

Everyone wants to know about this week’s game. I want to know about that too but I also want to know about next season.  The big question I have about next year is: will the Chiefs be better than they are this year? You have to assume the Chiefs aren’t going to win every game this year. Right? So, there’ll be room to grow. Right? So, tell me this — we all know the offense needs work but — how would you go about improving this defense? They’re not the best against the run? So, how do you fix that?

Hypothetically speaking, what if the Chiefs defense continues playing so well that by this December, Bob Sutton is then rumored to be going elsewhere to be a head coach? Can you deal with losing Bob Sutton next year? If you want to predict something really interesting… predict something relative to next season.

So, Addict fans, do you have something you’d like to predict?
