Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Branden Albert has given in and will report to mandatory minicamp for the Jaguars.

For quite some time, there was nothing but silence between Branden Albert and the Jacksonville Jaguars. New head coach Doug Marrone couldn’t explain it, telling the press that he’d attempted to reach out to the veteran left tackle but that he’d yet to hear a reply. Organized team activities came and went and questions circled as to whether Albert would ever join his brand new team. Now those questions have been answered with word that Albert will indeed join the jags at the team’s upcoming mandatory minicamp.

Albert was traded to the Jaguars earlier this offseason from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 7th round selection. Rumors had first circulated that Albert was going to be released outright, but apparently the Jags wanted to trump other teams’ ability to woo Albert in free agency. Immediately after the trade, Albert spoke highly of his new home and said it felt good to be wanted and that he was excited. Then came the silence.

The Jaguars will likely have some decisions to make about Albert considering they also drafted Cam Robinson in the second round, a tackle from Alabama. Robinson could step in on the left side and use 2017 as his learning year to get some reps at where he’s likely to land long-term. However, Albert is still a solid veteran who can offer above average play and vital experience for other guys along the offensive line. It’s likely that in the end, Robinson kicks over to the right side and learns his craft there for at least the interim.

Albert spent his first six seasons in Kansas City before leaving in free agency to sign a big money deal with the Dolphins.
