The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense lost to the Houston Texans on Sunday by the final score of 19-12. I know, I know, its not proper football etiquette to say anything other than “we win as a team, we lose as a team” but some games that’s a load of poo cocktail and we all know it.

The Kansas City Chiefs defense and special teams didn’t lose that game, the offense did. The special teams had a good day and the defense held the Texans and their assortment of offensive weapons to under 20 points on their home field. That is supposed to be enough for this Chiefs football team to win, but the Chiefs did not win on Sunday and I would argue that despite the seven point margin it wasn’t really even that close.

The bottom line is that the Chiefs offense was just plain offensive to watch.

Now I believe in giving credit where credit is due so before I go any further I want to acknowledge that the Texans defense is very good and had a great game on Sunday. While I certainly wouldn’t argue with anyone that said that KC “shot themselves in the foot” or “gave that game away”, the Texans absolutely deserve some of the credit. Their defense had their way with the KC offense so kudos to them. That doesn’t mean that I’m letting the offense off the hook that easily.

This is the same offense that was able to average 28.5 points per game against the Texans in two games against them last season (both of which were also in Houston). Even with a good defensive performance from the Texans an average performance by the offense would have given the Chiefs a chance to win.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs didn’t have an average day on offense, they had an awful one.
