The Kansas City Chiefs gave their fans heart attacks with their 33-27 win over division rival the San Diego Chargers.

KC was essentially out of the game at the half, but someone must have ate their Wheaties during halftime. The team came back from a 21-point deficit to win in commanding fashion over the visiting Bolts.

The highlight of that game really came down to two players who stepped up big time. The first being quarterback Alex Smith. Smith posted career highs in passing yards and attempts during the game. He looked like a man possessed when leading his team back from the brink. The true icing on the cake came when the 33 year-old took the ball at the 2 yard line on a QB option and dove into the end zone to seal the game.

However, the heroic antics of Smith aside, one other player for the Chiefs was the true MVP of the game; running back Spencer Ware. Ware was a part of the dynamic duo who stepped up in a big way when pro-bowl running back Jamaal Charles tore his ACL in 2015.

Ware spent his first year in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks before being picked up by general manager John Dorsey. When Charles went down Ware had some big shoes to fill for the all-time leading rusher in Chiefs history. In 2015 Ware was able to put up 403 yards on the ground in 72 attempts good for an average of 5.6, and six touchdowns.

During the game against San Diego he rushed for 70 yards on 11 carries, for an average of 6.4 yards per rush, and once score. But perhaps his biggest contribution came in the passing game. Ware had seven receptions for 129 yards, 18.4 yards per catch, including a 45 yard catch and run from Smith. His running and pass catching helped keep the Chargers on their toes and opened the game for the Chiefs.

Ware was perhaps the biggest part of the comeback for Kansas City which brings to question; what happens when Charles returns?
