De’Anthony Thomas: What’s the story?

Is the return of De’Anthony Thomas a good thing for the Kansas City Chiefs?

Last week we took at look at the curious case of Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis and what his place with the team might be. In that post, another player was mentioned as someone whom the quietly kind of stepped out of the way for the team, De’Anthony Thomas.

Now while he did suffer a concussion that sidelined the player in Week 12, Thomas would go on to miss the rest of the season, before finally being placed in injured reserve at the end of the year. What is more interesting is how coach Andy Reid talked about him.

In Wednesday’s report, after the concussion suffered in Week 12 against the San Diego Chargers, Reid said that Thomas was in the concussion protocol and that general manager John Dorsey was handling that part of it. Reid also said he did not know where he is.

Two days before Christmas, Thomas returned to practice but was ruled out that week for a non-injury related reason. Less than a week later, Thomas was placed on IR, finishing his season.

In the offseason there were rumors that he might be on the trade block with a potential reunion with his former Oregon coach Chip Kelly in San Francisco, however nothing came of it.

Flash forward to now with the Chiefs fully engulfed with their OTAs and guess who is back and taking kick returns and passes? De’Anthony Thomas. So what really happened? All we can do is speculate.

DAT is a special player, but his size is an issue. Thomas needs to put some more weight on to increase his durability. When he is on, the kid can flat out play, but will another concussion be the end of his NFL career?

Chiefs Kingdom should be happy to see DAT back for OTAs. When he is in the lineup defenses have to account for the speedster which can open up so much more the Chiefs offensively. In the return game he is a monster who reminds many of Dante Hall.

There you have it, Addicts. What do you think of the Thomas mystery? Do you have any theories? Let us know in the comments.
