Travis Kelce has a lot of love to share, and when it comes to geography, his heart belongs to two towns. As a Chiefs legend, he's always going to have a home in Kansas City, of course, but there's also no denying his strong affinity for and connection with his roots back in northern Ohio.

While Kelce has been incredibly generous to charities and civic efforts in and around the K.C. region, he's also invested heavily in his hometown of Cleveland. Earlier this year, he had the chance to play in Cleveland, potentially for the last time, in a game against the Browns and he called it a "special day."

Unfortunately for Cleveland, their own pro football team doesn't give them much to cheer about. The Browns have been a mostly-abysmal franchise for quite some time. The team has never played in the Super Bowl and have only won double-digit games in a season on four occasions since 1989. Kelce has won double-digit games in each of the last four years.

This week, the best player on the Browns, defensive end Myles Garrett, requested a trade away from the organization, which means a team that won only three games in 2024 will likely face a long rebuilding effort once again. Garrett is ready to win at this stage of his career after putting in his prime years on a perennial loser, so no one can blame him.

During Wednesday's Super Bowl media blitz, Kelce was asked by reporters about Garrett's recent trade demand and it was clear that Kelce has nothing but love for perhaps the NFL's greatest defensive player.

"That’s tough. I mean, obviously I think every team in the National Football League would be accepting of a guy like Myles Garrett," said Kelce. "Just a pro’s pro. A standup guy. He’s in the community. I’ve told him I appreciated him for everything he’s done in the Cleveland community before he’d mentioned he wanted a trade or wanted to get out of there. I just have so much love for him. He’s such a good guy.

Kelce was also understanding of how hard this must be for Browns fans who just want to be able to enjoy their franchise for once. Kelce sympathizes with the fan base and says they deserve better.

"On top of that, I think Cleveland deserves to have a product that they can get really, really excited for. That’s a diehard sports town that’s just feening for an opportunity to go crazy for football."

Perhaps a trade of Garrett this offseason will yield an impressive return to help jumpstart Cleveland's efforts at building a contender. For now, Cleveland fans can at least watch one of their own in the biggest game of all in Super Bowl LIX.
