An uneven start to the season has led to some visible frustrations for the Kansas City Chiefs, including Travis Kelce’s latest exchange with Andy Reid.
The superstar tight end was seen yelling at head coach Andy Reid on the sideline during the team's Sunday Night win over the New York Giants. This isn't the first time something like this has happended between the two, but it's a sign of frustration within Kansas City's offense.
If tensions continue to rise, this could turn into a real problem for the Chiefs moving forward. Kelce has already had multiple sideline tirades three games into a frustrating season for the offense.
Chiefs sideline erupts again as Travis Kelce yells at Andy Reid
During the second quarter of Sunday night's game, Kelce and Reid were seen having a heated exchange on the sideline. At that point, the offense was struggling to put up points, and Kelce was hardly being worked into the passing game. What should have been a blowout was turning into a slugfest. Clearly, the star tight end had had enough. The two even bumped shoulders during the argument.
After the game, the Chiefs' head coach declined to let the media know what was said. Instead, he praised Kelce's competitive spirit, saying, "I love Travis' passion, man. I'm OK with that. We didn't have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn't where we needed it to be, so, within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it too. That's the part I love about him. The guy is all-in. Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He's an emotional guy."
Yes, the tight end is competitive, but sideline spats like this can shake up the locker room, especially during a losing season.
This is far from the first time this has happened. Kelce has blown up on his coach in the past, even in the midst of a Super Bowl win. In the Chiefs' tight game against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, the tight end bumped into Reid, knocking him off balance. He later admitted that he went too far in the moment.
A bit of sideline emotion is nothing to panic about, but the interaction is an outward sign of the disfunction within the Chiefs' offense. Through three weeks, this team has struggled to get anything to click. A surprising 1-2 start has fans and experts reconsidering Kansas City's reign over the AFC, especially as conference foes continue to rise.
