Raiders might take a wild swing to try and catch the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes

This would be interesting.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been fortunate not to be in quarterback purgatory for quite some time now. The Las Vegas Raiders can't say the same thing and they could be adding a fiery personality to the group of AFC West quarterbacks this spring.

According to Austin Abbott on X who attended the NFL Combine, "Shedeur Sanders is slipping, 6th overall to the Raiders is the earliest he could go". Of course, this is just a rumor, but if this is true and Sanders does land with the Raiders, that definitely impacts the Chiefs considering they're both in the AFC West.

Sanders played for his father, Deion Sanders, at Colorado the past two years and put up crazy good numbers, throwing for over 4,100 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 picks in 2024. He's got the swagger that you'd expect Deion Sanders' kid to have and would no doubt bring that swagger to the AFC West, something the Chiefs don't need to deal with.

The Raiders desperately need a quarterback and, unfortunately for them, this is not the year to need one as the draft and free-agent quarterbacks leave a lot to be desired. Sanders is considered one of the two best quarterback prospects in the draft this year but the Raiders could reportedly still land him, even at sixth overall.

Cam Ward is the other top quarterback prospect and it feels as though he'll go first overall, whether that's to the Titans, who hold the top pick, or to a team that trades into that spot. The Browns hold the second pick in the draft and with all of the Deshaun Watson drama, it wouldn't be surprising if they considered taking Sanders in that spot.

While there's no guarantee that Sanders end up being any good in the NFL, it'd be more fun for Chiefs fans to see the Raiders flounder without a true quarterback for at least another year. Let's hope they strike out here or back up the Brinks truck prior to the draft for someone like Sam Darnold. That'd be far more entertaining for Chiefs Kingdom.
