The Chiefs host the Bears on Thursday night in their third and final preseason contest.
The comparisons have already begun.
Only a few days ago, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was showing off his instincts, live arm, and scrambling ability in a preseason exhibition against the Cincinnati Bengals. Given the way he kept multiple plays alive or dazzled with his arm, it didn't take long for the Patrick Mahomes comps to emerge.
Even Tyreek Hill made them.
That sort of hype will make any fan base excited to see what the buzz is all about, which is why it's understandable if Chiefs Kingdom is looking forward to the team's third and final preseason game. It's not as if meaningless exhibitions are all that exciting in late August, but the chance to see a bright young athlete for the first time in person is a memorable one. Just ask the Indiana Fever about the Caitlin Clark experience.
Unfortunately for those wanting a glimpse of Williams at Arrowhead Stadium, you're going to have to keep your eyes trained on the sideline for such views. According to NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Williams will be sitting for Thursday's game along with the majority of the Bears' starters.
Before anyone complains too much, two things are important to keep in mind here. First, the Chiefs aren't playing any of their starters either, so it's not as if this is a rare move by the Bears that's robbing fans of some experience they should be used to having. Second, because of their involvement in the Hall of Fame game, the Bears have already played one more game than anyone else (except the Houston Texans).
The Bears will visit the Chiefs for the presason finale for both teams on Thursday at 7:20 Arrowhead Time.
