Caleb Williams reminds many of us (including Tyreek) of Patrick Mahomes vs. Bengals

No one should be compared to Patrick Mahomes after a single preseason game, but the flashes were certainly there on Saturday.

If you found yourself watching the Chicago Bears game on Saturday (for random reasons, I suppose) and wondered if you'd accidentally missed the beginning of the Kansas City Chiefs broadcast, we'd understand. That's because Caleb Williams was doing his best impersonations of the greatest quarterback in the game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Williams was the first overall selection in this year's NFL Draft after declaring himself eligible following a strong career at USC. The Chicago Bears made the decision to go with Williams as their new franchise quarterback and traded away Justin Fields in the process. While the moves were debated this offseason, the first displays of Williams' potential are likely enough to set those aside from now on.

For those watching Williams on Sunday, it was an incredible display of arm strength, on-field vision, scrambling ability, and keen awareness. And it all reminded viewers of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Just in case you wondered if you were the only one thinking that, just know that former Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill was thinking the same thing.

For those who missed Williams' brilliance on Saturday, here's a look at his ability to elongate the play and make something happen out of nothing. In fact, some responses to this play brought up the word "magic." Sound familiar?

Then there was this incredible throw which shows off his arm. It also helps that he's been given Rome Odunze as a weapon, taken at No. 9 overall in the NFL Draft.

Then there was this throw, which didn't end up officially counting. But when you watch it, it's hard not to think of Mahomes once again with the way he keeps the play alive with his feet and keen instincts. His athleticism allows him to get a lead on the defender and from there, he's able to work his magic with excellent arm strength as well.

Bears wide receivers are going to have to get used to the same thing every pass catcher says on the Chiefs: "A play is never, ever over with Mahomes at quarterback."

Of course, mistakes will be made and anyone believing that Williams is Mahomes 2.0 should tap the brakes. A single preseason showing is just that and should be kept with measured perspective. At the same time, a franchise that's lacked a truly great quarterback for who knows how long deserves a moment like this. Chicago is a great city. Bears fans are a great base. This is a moment worth savoring.
