Which Chiefs to start and sit in Week 3 of the fantasy football season?

Another week, another nail-biter of a game for Kansas City. A few players showed why they should always be started on your fantasy team while others fizzled out and could deserve to be relegated for the Chiefs' week three matchup and first road game of the season.

Another week, another nail-biter of a game for Kansas City. A few players showed why they should always be starting on your fantasy team while others fizzled out and could deserve to be relegated for the Chiefs' Week 3 matchup and first road game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons.

Chiefs players worth starting

Rashee Rice - WR

Once again, the second-year stud out of SMU proved he is WR1 material on anybody's fantasy football team. He caught 5 of his 6 targets for 75 yards and an exquisite touchdown that was dropped right in his hands over the arms of Cam Taylor-Britt.

Until Rice faces suspension or can't get on the field, don't take Rice off your starting list. He'll only burn you on the bench, but he can always torch a defense for 75-100 yards a game.

Travis Kelce - TE

Up to this point, the superstar tight end and world-famous boyfriend of Taylor Swift has been deafeningly quiet on the field. With that said, the soon-to-be 35-year-old is due for a "normal" game by his standards.

So far through two games this season, the Falcons have allowed 10 receptions on 12 targets to tight ends, none of whom hold a candle to Kelce and what he can do on the field.

Also, in Kelce's two career games against Atlanta, he's averaging 7.5 receptions for 119 yards. Kelce is currently projected to get upwards of 11 fantasy points, but with a return to normalcy, Mahomes could easily get Kelce up to the 20s.

Patrick Mahomes - QB

Much like Kelce, Mahomes does not typically fall into what people call "slumps". When Mahomes has a rough game he almost always follows it up with a three-touchdown type of game. In three of Mahomes' last four games following a two-interception stat line, he has reverted back to his old self, throwing at least two touchdowns in all four games.

You can also rely on Mahomes for his legs, which he likes to show off when he doesn't have a trustworthy running back around. Atlanta currently ranks in the bottom five in rushing yards and rushing attempts allowed, so Mahomes could break through once or twice for some extra fantasy points.

Chiefs players worth sitting

Xavier Worthy - WR

While Worthy has massive upside and touchdown abilities, he will be going up against a top-seven pass defense in the third game of his young career.

It could very easily come back to bite any fantasy owners of Worthy, but another two-reception game (4.2 fantasy points) is honestly more likely than another two-touchdown game that yielded fantasy owners 20+ points against Baltimore.

The only reason you should watch Worthy start is the possibility of more run attempts with the lack of Isiah Pacheco in the backfield. Start at your own risk.

Samaje Perine - RB / Carson Steele - RB

The loss of Pacheco is going to be felt for weeks, possibly months, but that doesn't mean you should jump to the waiver wires and grab his two backups.

Kansas City's situation is not like many other teams' who have lost starting running backs, especially the CMC situation in San Francisco. This is mainly because Reid's playbook is known to be tough and very pass-heavy, both of which mean that Mahomes' arm will be on display more than the legs of an undrafted rookie and 29-year old.

At the goal line, there is touchdown equity in both Steele and Perine, but it's not worth more than an RB4 or low-grade FLEX position if anything. Start at your own risk.

Kansas City Chiefs - DEF

The Chiefs' defense has been disappointing to say the least, especially considering how great they were all of last season.

Currently, the Chiefs rank in the bottom five of total yards allowed (fourth-worst), pass yards allowed (second-worst), and pass completions allowed (fifth-worst). Also, through two games the Chiefs' defense has made tight ends look like #1 receivers which someone like Atlanta's Kyle Pitts could easily exploit.

Finally, Chris Jones has proven his merit and his worth but the rest of the defensive line has been tough to watch outside of a few plays per game. Start at your own risk.
