What is the record for most touchdowns scored in a Super Bowl?

Because Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and 49ers is just around the corner, let's look at one record these high-scoring offenses could break on Sunday.

With Super Bowl LVIII just days away, which will undoubtedly be a tough matchup, or rematch, for the Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers, how sweet would it be if Kansas City could break a nearly 30-year record held by their opponents?

That is a big possibility on Sunday and seems completely doable for an offense led by Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, who will likely be going unblocked, and Isiah Pacheco running wild. It won't be an easy feat lining up against Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, but let's hope they are dealt a similar fate from Super Bowl LIV.

So, what is the record they could try to break? The most touchdowns scored in a single Championship game.

The current record is held by the 49ers and the Chargers from Super Bowl XXIX, which was held on January 29, 1995. Steve Young led his team to a big 49-26 win, their franchise's fifth Lombardi in team history. Between the two teams, ten touchdowns were scored, seven by San Fran and three by San Diego, and the only teams who have come close to that are the Patriots and Eagles from Super Bowl LII.

Given the offensive rosters of both teams playing this weekend, it seems fair to believe this goal is doable. It would be pretty cool for the Chiefs to be involved in another record-breaking game to add to this exemplary era they're in right now, and it would be even better if they could do that while also beating the team that held the record for so long.

Fortunately, we only have a few days left to find out if Kansas City will take home another title.
